What to expect
Mundo Hot Springs is a small, family-run soaking spot in ranch country just north of Cambridge, in the Weiser River valley of west-central Idaho. It is not a big swim resort. There is one main geothermal pool and one hot spa, a bistro, a cabin, a pool house and a campground, all on a single property off Goodrich Road.
The spring is piped down to the pools at about 160°F71°C and cooled for soaking. Published guides put the large pool at around 102°F39°C, slightly cooler in summer, and the spa at about 106°F41°C. The owners say a newer temperature system keeps the water comfortable in both summer and winter, and Visit McCall describes the pool as temperature controlled for any season. Hot water flows through continuously and no chemicals are added. The big pool is drained, pressure washed and refilled every week.
Because everyone books a 2-hour slot, the pool stays at a comfortable head count. It feels more like a neighborhood pool with good water than a tourist stop. One guide says the springs were developed into a public soak in 2012.
The pool has a ramp entry, which makes it one of the few Idaho hot springs with built-in wheelchair access.
Getting there
The address is 3024 Goodrich Road #3, Cambridge, ID 83610. The operator describes it as about 3 miles north of Cambridge, off US Highway 95.
- From Boise: Cambridge is roughly 105 miles north of Boise. The usual route is I-84 west toward Payette and Weiser, then north on US-95 through Weiser and Midvale to Cambridge.
- From McCall: Drive south on Highway 55 to New Meadows, then south on US-95 through Council to Cambridge. Visit McCall’s directions have you turn right onto Bain Road about a mile north of Cambridge.
- From Hells Canyon: Cambridge is where Highway 71 leaves US-95 toward Brownlee Dam and Oxbow, so Mundo is a natural stop before or after a Hells Canyon trip.
Different guides give slightly different turn-by-turn routes from town. Put the street address into your map app and follow the signs. Roads are paved or good gravel, and there is parking at the property.
When to go
Mundo is open year-round, but the schedule changes a lot through the year and it is closed every Monday and Tuesday.
- Regular hours: Wednesday and Thursday 4-8 pm, Friday and Saturday noon-8 pm, Sunday by reservation only.
- Winter (November 1 to mid-March): Soaking runs only from 6 to 8 pm, and children under 13 are not allowed.
Summers in the Weiser River valley are hot and dry, which makes a 102°F39°C pool less appealing in the afternoon heat; evening slots are better then. Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons. A winter evening soak under the stars, with snow on the hills, is a good reason to come in January if you are an adult traveling without kids.
Book ahead for Friday and Saturday, especially during holidays and the warmer months when the Weiser River Trail is busy.
