What to expect

Indian Springs is a small-town summer plunge, not a soaking spot. The owners call the pool “The Nat,” and it has been running for close to a hundred years, long enough that they say they regularly meet people who swam here as kids and now bring their grandchildren. It sits in a pocket of trees and lawns just south of American Falls, with an RV park wrapped around it.

The pool itself is one big rectangle. A visitor guide gives its size as roughly 50 by 100 feet, fed by several natural springs, and the resort lists the depth as 2.5 to 7 feet. There is a slide at each end and a jumping board. Diving is not allowed. The water is warm rather than hot. One guide puts it at about 90°F32°C, which feels good on a hot Snake River Plain afternoon and is warm enough that kids will stay in all day. The resort confirms it adds chlorine, so treat it like a public pool rather than a natural spring.

Around the pool are shaded benches where non-swimmers can sit for free, as long as they stay off the pool rim. A grill sells food during the season. There is no Wi-Fi.

Beyond the pool, the property is mostly campground: grassy, shaded RV sites, a few tent areas, four rentable pavilions for family reunions and birthday parties, a fishpond and small creeks running through. Volleyball and horseshoe pits round it out.

Getting there

The resort is at 3249 Indian Springs Road, about 4 miles south of American Falls in Power County.

  • From I-86: Take exit 36 for ID-37. Head south on ID-37 for about 1.4 miles, then turn left onto Cold Creek Road (also signed as Indian Springs Road) and continue about half a mile to the entrance.
  • From Pocatello: Drive west on I-86 to American Falls, then continue to exit 36. Allow around 40 minutes.

The roads are paved, and big rigs get in without trouble. Pull-through sites are available, but the resort does not take overflow parking, so reserve if you are bringing a trailer on a summer weekend.

When to go

The pool runs only in summer. In 2026 it opened on Saturday, May 9 (Mother’s Day weekend) and closed on September 22. Hours were 10am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 6pm on Sunday. Expect similar dates in future years, but the resort’s rates page announces each season’s opening day, so check it in spring.

June and early September are the easy months: warm, fewer school groups and plenty of room in the water. July weekends and holidays are the busiest. Afternoons in this part of Idaho are often hot and windy, which is when a warm pool and some shade make the most sense.

From late September to early May the pool is closed. The campground stays open year-round and offers extended-stay and winter sites, which makes it a cheap base for winter travel along I-86, but you will not be swimming.

Prices and booking

You do not book the pool. Pay at the lobby when you arrive. The 2026 rates, tax included:

  • All-day swim (come and go all day): $11.50 for ages 12 and up, $9.50 for ages 4 to 11, $8.50 for seniors 65 and over, $5 for toddlers 0 to 3 with a swim diaper.
  • Family passes: $40 for four, $45 for five, depending on ages.
  • One-time swim: a lower price that ends when you leave the pool area. The rate sheet lists it about $2 below each all-day price.
  • Season passes: $200 single, $250 couple, $500 for a family of six, with early-season sale prices.
  • Rentals: swimsuits and towels are $3 each.

Pool rules worth knowing before you go:

  • Swimsuits are required. Nylon or polyester swim shirts are fine. Cotton, denim and other street clothes are not allowed in the water.
  • Children under 13 need an adult in the pool area for the whole visit, even when a lifeguard is on duty.
  • Lifeguards are not guaranteed. The resort says one may or may not be working.
  • Group rates are available. Ask in the lobby.

Where to stay nearby

The resort campground is the obvious base, with shaded RV and tent sites and 30 or 50 amp service on some of them. The 2026 nightly rates were $24 for car camping or a dry tent or RV site, $31 with water and electric, $37 with full hookups, and $40 to $43 for pull-throughs. Monthly rates are available, and the resort offers a military discount. Showers ($3) and a dump station ($6) are on site, along with 10 individual restrooms. Check-in is 1pm to 9pm and check-out is 11am. Quiet hours run from 10pm to 6am.

Reservations are taken by phone at 208-226-7700, by email, or through RoverPass. Cancel at least five days ahead or you pay in full, and deposits are not refunded.

American Falls, 4 miles north, has motels, groceries and fuel, plus camping by the reservoir. Pocatello is the nearest city with a full range of hotels.

Safety notes

  • Supervise children. The deep end reaches about 7 feet and lifeguards are not always on duty.
  • Sun and heat: Shade is limited in the water itself. Bring sunscreen and drink plenty, especially in July and August.
  • Creeks and pond: The resort asks that children, adults and pets stay out of the fishpond and creeks on the property.
  • Pets: Dogs must be leashed outside your rig and kept out of the pool area. The resort fines owners who leave messes or let dogs run loose.

Nearby stops worth adding

Massacre Rocks State Park, west along I-86, has Oregon Trail history, Snake River views and Register Rock, where emigrants carved their names in the 1800s. The Power County Historical Society and Museum in American Falls covers local history. For a true hot soak, Lava Hot Springs is east of Pocatello and pairs well with a summer day at Indian Springs.
