What to expect
Canyon Hot Springs is a roadside resort in Albert Canyon, a narrow valley in the Selkirk Mountains on the Trans-Canada Highway east of Revelstoke. It is a summer place built around two outdoor pools, a large campground and a cluster of cabins on about 100 acres of rainforest.
The water comes from mineral springs up the valley and is piped about 3 km (1.9 miles) down to the resort. It feeds two pools:
- Hot pool: 15,000 gallons, kept at about 104°F40°C. This is where the soaking happens.
- Swimming pool: 60,000 gallons, about 86°F30°C. It is warm enough to stay in for a long time and is where children spend most of the day. (Tourism Revelstoke lists it a few degrees cooler, so expect some variation.)
Forested peaks rise straight up on both sides, and on clear evenings the light catches the ridges above the pools. The feel is a classic family stop on a mountain road trip: kids in the big pool, adults in the hot one, RVs parked under the cedars. Do not come expecting a quiet spa or a wild spring.
Getting there
The resort is about 35 km (22 miles) east of Revelstoke on Highway 1, the Trans-Canada, between Mount Revelstoke National Park to the west and Glacier National Park and Rogers Pass to the east. The turn is signed on the highway, and parking is on site.
- From Revelstoke: Drive east on Highway 1 for about 35 km. Allow around half an hour.
- From Golden and the Rockies: Drive west on Highway 1 over Rogers Pass. The resort is on the far side of the pass, before you reach Revelstoke.
Highway 1 through Rogers Pass is a high mountain road with avalanche control closures in winter and construction delays in summer. Check DriveBC before you go. If you plan to stop at trailheads or viewpoints in Glacier or Mount Revelstoke national parks on the way, check Parks Canada pass rules.
Prices and booking

Included and not included: cabin and chalet stays include hot springs passes. Campers pay pool admission separately. Towels are not provided but are sold on site, and so are locker padlocks.
Booking: you do not need a reservation to swim. When the resort is very full, priority goes to people staying there. Campsites and cabins book online. Campsite reservations guarantee a site type, not a numbered site, and cabins, suites and lodges are non-refundable.
When to go
The pools run from mid-May to mid-September. In 2026 they opened on May 15 and closed on September 19, with hours of 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. They are closed all winter, which makes this a poor choice for a ski-trip soak. In the cold months, head to Crazy Creek, about an hour west, instead.
July and August are the busiest weeks, when road-trip traffic and full campgrounds keep the pools lively. The resort runs its lower, non-serviced camp only during that peak (June 24 to September 7 in 2026). For a calmer visit, come in late May, June before school ends, or September. Rain is common in this wet interior rainforest at any time of the season, but a hot pool in the rain is no hardship.
Rules and etiquette
- Swimsuits are required. The resort asks for clean, proper swim attire before you enter the pool area.
- Children under 14 must be with someone 18 or older. Babies need disposable swim diapers.
- Paid guests only in the pool area.
- Quiet time in the campground runs from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.
- Fires only in the designated fire pits. During a provincial campfire ban, the BC Wildfire Service rules apply.
- Dogs must stay on a leash in the campground and are not allowed in cabins.
Where to stay nearby
On site: the resort has about 100 RV and tent sites, plus cabins, chalets and lodges. Cabin guests get pool passes for their stay. Check-in is 1 p.m. for campsites and 3 p.m. for cabins. The office sells snacks, ice and firewood, and there is a laundry.
Revelstoke, about 35 km (22 miles) west, has hotels, restaurants and groceries. Parks Canada runs campgrounds in Glacier National Park east of the resort. To the west, Crazy Creek Resort near Malakwa has cabins, camping and pools open all year.
History
Canadian Pacific Railway workers found the mineral springs at Albert Canyon around the turn of the 20th century. The area is named after Albert Rogers, nephew of Major A. B. Rogers, who is credited with finding Rogers Pass. Albert Canyon became a railway pusher station with a roundhouse and a station, and railroaders built a timber enclosure around the springs. The station was later abandoned. The present resort dates from the 1970s, and the springs it uses are some distance from the original railway-era site.
Safety notes
- Heat: 104°F40°C is at the upper end of comfortable soaking. Take breaks, drink water and keep young children in the cooler pool.
- Highway traffic: the resort is right off a busy section of the Trans-Canada with heavy trucks. Use the signed access and watch for turning traffic.
- Wildlife: black and grizzly bears live in these mountains. Keep food and garbage locked away at your campsite.
- Wildfire smoke: summer smoke can blanket the valley. The resort does not refund stays for wildfire or smoke, so check BC Wildfire Service maps before a late-summer trip.
