What to expect

Blackstone Hotsprings is a small hotel and bathhouse on Austin Street in downtown Truth or Consequences, a block off Broadway. It is run by Blackstone Baths and Beds, a New Mexico company, and it leans hard into a retro theme. Each of its 12 rooms is named after an old television show: The Golden Girls, The Jetsons, Star Trek, I Dream of Jeannie, The Lone Ranger, Wonder Woman and so on. New Mexico Magazine, in a story updated in September 2026, singled out the kitschy TV rooms and the private outdoor baths as the reason to stay here.

The point of the place is the water. T or C sits on a shallow geothermal aquifer under the old bathhouse district, and the city says its mineral water reaches the surface at 98-115°F37-46°C. Blackstone pipes that water into every room. Most rooms have a large tub, either inside or on a private walled patio, and the cheapest room has a mineral water shower on its patio instead. The hotel describes its water as clear, high in minerals and free of smell, and says it comes out at a good bathing temperature. It does not publish a number. One travel guide puts the tubs at about 112°F44°C, and you can run cold water to bring that down.

You do not have to stay the night to soak. Four private baths are open to walk-ins:

  • The Red Bath (outdoor): submerged benches at different depths, an outdoor shower, a fountain and low evening lighting. Up to 4 people.
  • The Yellow Bath (outdoor): two soaking ledges, a curved bench, an outdoor shower and vintage Route 66 motel chairs. Up to 4 people.
  • The Turquoise Bath (outdoor): the largest of the outdoor baths, with several ledges and benches. Up to 8 people.
  • The Wet Room (indoor): a big soaking pool with steps and benches, a geothermal steam room and a waterfall you can sit under. The website gives its capacity as 8 in one place and 6 in another, so ask if you are bringing a group.

Prices and booking

Prices below are from the Blackstone website in 2026. Every soak runs 45 minutes.

Bath Walk-in, 1-2 people Hotel guests Each extra person
Red Bath $35 $25 $10
Yellow Bath $35 $25 $10
Turquoise Bath $45 $25 $10
Wet Room $75 $50 $20

The outdoor baths run 9am to 9pm daily and the Wet Room 10am to 9pm, with the last soak ending at 8:45pm. You can walk into the lobby, book online or call 575-894-0894. Expect to pay in full to hold a slot. Outdoor baths must be prepaid, bath payments are not refunded, and Wet Room bookings can be changed online up to 24 hours ahead. Towels come with the Wet Room only, so bring your own for the outdoor baths.

Rooms in 2026 run from $180 a night (The Twilight Zone, with a patio mineral shower) to $260 (I Dream of Jeannie and The Adventures of Superman). Most rooms are $205 to $240. Several have a small kitchen or wet bar. Rooms are prepaid in full when you book. You can stay a single night Sunday to Thursday, but weekends and listed holidays need at least two nights. Check-in starts at 3pm and check-out is 11am, with no exceptions. If you cancel, you have to call, and you get a house credit for the full amount that is good for a year. No-shows get nothing back.

Rules and etiquette

  • Age limits: soakers must be 12 or older, anyone under 18 needs an adult with them, and the person who books must be 21 or older.
  • What to wear: every bath is private, so the hotel leaves it to you. Nobody else shares your tub unless you bring them.
  • Phones: cell phone use is not allowed in the baths except to take photos.
  • Smoke and fragrance free: no smoking or vaping anywhere on the property, and no grills or portable cookers. Smokers have to stand at least 50 feet from an entrance. The hotel is also fragrance free and may charge a $150 cleaning fee if a lingering smell keeps a room or bath from being rented.
  • No pets: pets, comfort animals and therapy animals are not allowed. Trained service animals are welcome if you call ahead.

Getting there

Truth or Consequences is on I-25 in southern New Mexico, roughly two hours from both Albuquerque and El Paso. The hotel’s own directions are worth following, because it says online maps send people wrongly down Mims Street.

  • From the north (Albuquerque, Santa Fe): take I-25 south to exit 79. Follow North Date Street into downtown. At the El Cortez Theater sign, turn left on Foch Street, then right on Austin Street. The parking lot is on the left in the middle of the block.
  • From the south (Las Cruces, El Paso): take I-25 north to exit 75 for Williamsburg and Truth or Consequences. Follow South Broadway into downtown, turn right on Foch Street, then right on Austin Street.

The address is 410 Austin Street. Parking is on site and the baths are a few steps from the car.

When to go

The baths are open every day of the year. T or C is in the Chihuahuan Desert, so summer afternoons are hot and an outdoor tub at midday in July is hard work. Evenings are better in summer. From October to April the days are mild and the nights are cold enough that an outdoor soak under the stars feels right. Weekends, holidays and festival dates fill the rooms first, and because weekends need a two-night stay, book well ahead if you want a Friday or Saturday. Walk-in slots are easier to get on weekday mornings.

Where to stay nearby

The simplest plan is to stay here and soak in your room. If Blackstone is full, the downtown bathhouse district has several other places with mineral water within a few blocks, including Fire Water Lodge, Riverbend Hot Springs, Pelican Spa, Sierra Grande and Hoosier Hot Springs. Each has its own rules and booking system, so check them directly. Chain motels sit near the I-25 exits. Elephant Butte Lake State Park, just northeast of town, has lakeside campgrounds.

Safety notes

  • Heat: water near 112°F44°C is hotter than most hot tubs. Test it with your hand, add cold water, and keep soaks short. Get out if you feel dizzy or light-headed.
  • Drink water: the desert air dries you out fast, and a hot soak makes it worse. Bring a water bottle, and skip alcohol before and during a soak.
  • Health conditions: if you are pregnant or have heart or blood pressure problems, ask your doctor before soaking in very hot water.
  • Keep your head up: as with any hot spring water, do not put your head under.
