What to expect
Alameda’s is a small, old-fashioned spa-motel in Hot Springs, Montana, a town of a few hundred people on the Flathead Indian Reservation. The building dates to the 1930s and still looks the part. Instead of a big shared pool, every suite has its own bathtub plumbed with hot mineral water drawn from wells on the property. You fill it when you want, as hot as you want, and nobody else is in it.
That is the whole point of the place. If you want a private soak, a kitchen and a quiet room, it works well. If you picture a big outdoor pool with mountain views, it is not that. The retreat says plainly that outdoor soaking is not currently available on site.
A February 2026 Flathead Beacon feature counted 18 units, each with its own tub, done in the original 1930s style. Some guests ask for a room with a jetted tub or a clawfoot tub, so mention a preference when you book. Most rooms have a kitchen, and the retreat lists a living room, bedroom, fully equipped kitchen and south-facing sun porch as typical features. Dishes, kitchen utensils, shampoo and body soap are provided.
The water is mineral-rich well water. Wikipedia’s article on the town describes it as lithium-rich. The retreat does not publish a temperature, so test the tap water before you climb in and mix in cold as needed.
Getting there
Alameda’s is at 308 Spring Street North in Hot Springs, a few blocks north of Main Street. The town sits west of Montana Highway 28 on MT-77 (Hot Springs Road). The retreat puts it about an hour from Missoula and Kalispell and roughly 90 miles, or about 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours, from the West Entrance of Glacier National Park.
- From Missoula: US-93 north to Ravalli, MT-200 west, then north to MT-28 and west on MT-77 into town.
- From Kalispell: US-93 south to Elmo, then MT-28 to the MT-77 junction and west into town.
Parking is at the motel. Once you are in town, everything else is close: the post office, a grocery store and a couple of restaurants are within a few blocks on Main Street.
When to go
Alameda’s is open year-round, and the private tubs make it a good winter stop. A hot bath in your room on a snowy night is the main draw. Summers in Hot Springs are dry and can be hot, but the rooms work for that too, since you control the bath temperature.
The town is quiet most of the year. Weekends in summer and around holidays are busier, so book ahead if your dates are fixed.

Soaking in town
The baths at Alameda’s are private, so swimwear is up to you in your room. For a public outdoor soak, two pools are a short walk away:
- Big Medicine Hot Springs on North Road has an outdoor concrete pool with a cash honor box. Swimsuits are required.
- Rose’s Plunge is in the old Camas Recreation Center at the corner of Spring Street and North Road, just west of Big Medicine.
The retreat itself points guests to both, describing them as less than a five-minute walk away.
Where to stay nearby
If Alameda’s is full, Hot Springs has a few other places to sleep that also have mineral water:
- Symes Hot Springs Hotel and Mineral Baths, two blocks north of Main Street on Wall Street, has 31 rooms and 10 cabins, outdoor pools and private indoor tubs.
- Wild Horse Hot Springs, just north of town, rents private soaking rooms and a few cabins.
- Big Medicine has camping and rustic rentals on site.
Nearby stops worth adding
Flathead Lake and the town of Polson are about an hour east. The CSKT Bison Range near Moiese is on the way in from Missoula. Glacier National Park is a long day trip.
Safety notes
- Hot tap water: Well water can come in very hot. Run the bath, let it settle, and check it with your hand before you get in. Keep children away from the hot tap.
- Long soaks: Hot baths raise your heart rate. Drink water, keep soaks to a sensible length, and get out slowly, since standing up fast from a hot tub can make you lightheaded.
- Old building: Room layouts vary, and step access differs from unit to unit. If you have mobility needs, ask about the specific room before booking.
